"Alaska Netscapes" - colorful photographic compositions
of fishing nets, Kodiak Alaska,
by Rebecca Irvin Clement

The Alaska Netscapes collection was inspired by my love for the ocean, adventure and the challenge of visiting remote areas in Alaska. I am a life long Alaskan who travels to interesting places photographing all that makes Alaska special. My fascination with nets began when photographing a storage lot of nets in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. While working on this series, I have come to realize their value to all of us as they help feed the world. History tells us that nets have been an important part of the web of life for thousands of years.

Photography credits include: Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, Best of Show 2000, Rondy awards 2004, 2003, 2001, Alaska Outdoor and Nature Photographers, Alaska Wild, selected for tour 2002 and 2001, The Photo, Three Zero Via the Back Door, selected for the new flight crew lounge at the Anchorage International Airport and included in a collection display of Dutch Harbor, Alaska in Seattle, selected for exhibit at Snow City Café in Anchorage in December 2005.

As an elementary classroom teacher, I have used my photography to help illustrate many lessons in the classroom. Sharing nature with children is important to me so I created the Alaska Adventure Bears Series, books for your readers. Bears in the Berry Patch and A Picnic with Friends combine my love for adventure, photography and teaching in hopes to captivate the imagination of young children and help them learn to read. Now retired, I visit libraries and schools in Alaska and the states sharing my photography and stories.

The exhibit includes 22 photographs.

Christina is an Alaskan born, self--taught photographer.  She strives to capture and share images that stir the senses and humble the soul to the reverent beauty of the world encircling us.  She enjoys life with her cat, Spankee, in a rustic Homer cabin, and when not photographing, can be found in the woods, on the beach, and occasionally, enjoying a margarita with friends.

"'Wrinkles' was brought to life by my desire to portray
the simple grace and beauty that each stage of life quietly offers.
It is my hope that this photographic journey will gently remind us that
though our individual paths are unique, we all share the universal ebb and flow of life,
which includes struggles and triumphs, sorrows and joys, losses and loves,
and the finality of death, ultimately including our own.

"This show is dedicated to my family, friends, and pets who have passed on.  Each one's life touched my own, and in their way taught me the power of love,
the mercy of forgiveness, and the grace of letting go.
Rest in peace."
